What To Do When the Heat Goes Out

Call it Murphy’s Law, or maybe just a little bad luck, but we sometimes see heat pump issues in Murrieta during the winter time, when they’re necessary to keep you toasty. While you know the team at Cool Air Solutions will forever be there ASAP when you need us for a heat pump repair, there are some things you can do to ensure a repair is necessary and save yourself some expenses if it’s not. We’ve collected this checklist of things to test before you give us a call.

  1. It may sound strange, but make sure everything is set to “on”. We’ve been to several calls only to find the thermostat or the heat pump itself is turned off.
    • Is the thermostat turned to heat? If yes, boost the temperature by five degrees to see if it switches on.
    • If everything looks accurate, check your heat pump switch (if it has one) and check the fuses and circuit breaker that protect the extra heating element (if it has one).
  2. If the heat pump still hasn’t turned on, return to your thermostat.
    • Try replacing the battery, if it has one.
  3. Is a blockage causing your heat pump to fail?
    • Inspect your air filters inside your air handler to make sure they’re not clogging things up.
    • Are your room heating registers open and clear?

If you’ve gone through this checklist and you still need a heat pump fix, call Cool Air Solutions at 951-299-9853 and we’ll get your home back to the warm and cozy place you expect this time of year.
