What To Do When the Heat Goes Out

Call it Murphy’s Law, or maybe just a little bad luck, but we sometimes see heat pump problems in Murrieta during the winter time, when they’re necessary to keep you toasty. While you know the team at Cool Air Solutions will forever be there ASAP when you require us for a heat pump repair, there are some things you can do to double check a repair is needed and save yourself some expenses if it’s not. We’ve compiled this checklist of things to test before you give us a call.

  1. It may sound strange, but make sure everything is set to “on”. We’ve been to several calls only to discover the thermostat or the heat pump itself is turned off.
    • Is the thermostat turned to heat? If yes, boost the temperature by five degrees to see if it kicks on.
    • If everything looks accurate, inspect your heat pump switch (if it has one) and check the fuses and circuit breaker that guard the extra heating element (if it has one).
  2. If the heat pump still hasn’t kicked on, return to your thermostat.
    • Try replacing the battery, if it has one.
  3. Is a blockage causing your heat pump to not work?
    • Check your air filters inside your air handler to make sure they’re not clogging things up.
    • Are your room heating registers open and unobstructed?

If you’ve worked through this checklist and you still need a heat pump repair, call Cool Air Solutions at 951-676-2665 or arrange an appointment up online and we’ll restore your home back to the toasty and cozy place you expect this time of year.
